Discover more about our commitment to your care and what to expect from Empowered Life Counselling.
What can I expect in my free 15-minute meet & greet?
We will meet on Jane or Zoom, an online platform, to discuss your current struggle, what your goal might be for sessions and how we can be of service. The consult will allow you to get to know us and our approach before setting up appointments.
What can I expect during subsequent counselling sessions?
We believe each individual person is unique and what works for one person, may not work for everyone.
Together we will explore what tools and strategies will help you to move through your struggle and reach your goals. We will look at family patterns, removing obstacles, exploring thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We are here to encourage and support clients; a compassionate facilitator. We all want connection - someone to talk to who will really listen and accept us without judgement. Our intention is to provide a safe space and to support you on your personal journey toward self awareness and discovery.
How do I know if I need counselling?
There are a variety of reasons why someone might seek out counselling. You may be facing a challenge, a crisis, or a life changing event. Maybe you are experiencing feelings of anxiety, low self-esteem, or depression. Events from your past may be interfering with your life in the present. Perhaps you have never felt that anyone has really listened to you or understood you, let alone accepted you. Maybe you are feeling stuck or experiencing a lack of direction.
These are just a few of the many examples of why someone might want to attend counselling sessions. Seeking support and receiving help is a courageous step towards a better quality of life. Counselling can help you to accept the things that you cannot change and help you to bring about changes that are possible.
Is online counselling as effective as in-person counselling?
Easy and accessible, online sessions are just as powerful as in-person sessions. When you find a counsellor that works with you - someone who feels safe and nonjudgmental and provides a space where you can explore your feelings and work towards your goals - it doesn't matter if you are in person or online.
From the convenience and comfort of your home, you can have the support you deserve and desire. You can have the opportunity to express and heal.
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who ask for help know when they need it and have the courage to reach out. Everyone needs help now and then. In our work together, we will help you explore and identify your strengths and how to implement them to reduce the influence of the problems you are facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
The difference is between someone who can do something, and someone who has the training and experience to do that same thing professionally. A mental health professional can help you approach your situation in a new way– teach you new skills, gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you listen to yourself. Furthermore, counselling is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others “knowing my business.” Lastly, if your situation provokes a great deal of negative emotion, and you’ve been confiding in a friend or family member, there is the risk that once you are feeling better you could start avoiding that person so you aren’t reminded of this difficult time in your life.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can be effective but it alone cannot solve all issues. Sometimes medication is needed in conjunction with counselling. Our work together is designed to explore and unpack the problems you are experiencing and expand on your strengths that can help you accomplish your personal goals.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Because each person has different issues and goals for counselling, it will be different depending on the individual. We tailor our therapeutic approach to your specific needs.
How long will it take?
Unfortunately, this is not possible to say in a general FAQs page. Everyone’s circumstances are unique to them and the length of time counselling can take to allow you to accomplish your goals depends on your desire for personal development, your commitment, and the factors that are driving you to seek counselling in the first place.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
We are so glad you are dedicated to getting the most out of your sessions. Your active participation and dedication will be crucial to your success.
